REGULAR CLASSES / Sat & Sun (Full pass)

All classes during the weekend, including the extension workshop are taught in english.

Please read the description below before submitting your registration form. Note that SLOW BAL-LOVE is an international festival with many top-level dancers. Even if you are advanced in your local scene, or at another festival, a lower level might be more fitting for you at this festival. There are three levels to choose from. Contact us if you have any questions.

Intermediate Level

This level is for dancers who want to strengthen their basic Slow Balboa technique and develop vocabulary, transitions, flow, and musicality. You should have at least two years of partner dance experience in swing or blues, along with some familiarity with Slow Balboa. Knowledge of dancers such as Dean Raftery and Ray Cunningham is expected.

No audition is required.

Intermediate/Advanced Level

This level is for dancers with a solid foundation in Slow Balboa who are ready to move beyond the basics.

The focus is on refining technique, improving flow and transitions, and developing musicality and rhythmical variation.

You should have several years of partner dance experience and clear experience in Slow Balboa. No audition is required, but a high level of focus and motivation is expected.

Advanced Level

This level is for experienced Slow Balboa dancers with strong fundamentals and a personal style. You are likely an active dancer in your local scene, possibly also teaching.

An audition is required. You must sign up in advance, and it will take place on Saturday morning. Passing the audition is required to join this level. If you do not pass, you will be offered a place in the Intermediate / Advanced level.

Advanced+ Level

The Advanced+ level is for the most talented and experienced dancers of the event. You can only attend this level if you have registered for the Advanced level and if you got an invitation to join the Advanced+ level. The invitations for the Advanced+ level will be sent out before the festival, but we may also invite dancers to join the Advanced+ level during the Advanced audition on Saturday morning.

Practice Sessions

Practice sessions are open to all levels of dancers, and you will rotate partners during the sessions, so there's no need to bring a partner. The goal is to give you additional time to work on what you've learned in class and to possibly integrate new and existing skills. These sessions will be guided by a teaching couple who will organize the activities, assist you, and answer any questions you might have.

ADDITIONAL CLASSES / Friday (Extension workshop)

You can add 3 extra hours of classes to your Full pass. Choose from the two options:

1/ "Musicality" w. Jenn & Shawn
We'll begin by diving deep into what it means for both leads and follows to dance with patience—behind, around, and through the beat—exploring the richness of timing, articulation, and texture in how we step, move, and connect with both our partners and the music. We’ll then expand into syncopations and odd-count patterns, using them to play with melody, phrasing, and the shades of rhythmic expression.

2/ "Fundamentals" w. Carolin & Iacopo
For anyone looking to learn the fundamentals of Slow Balboa from the ground up or revisit their basic technique. This is the place to be. You dont need any previous experience with Slow Bal but any experience in Balboa will be helpfull.
